If you were cheering in the stands during Long County High School’s massive opening football game, we have some absolutely crushing news.

The Blue Tide dominated the field and walked away with a huge win, but a shocking new update just erased all of that hard work.

According to new reports released on Monday, Long County has officially been forced to forfeit their season-opening victory.

If you have a student-athlete or just love local Friday night lights, here is exactly why the Blue Tide just had their record wiped clean.

Back on August 22, the Blue Tide faced off against McIntosh County Academy in the highly anticipated Erk Russell Classic.

The team played a phenomenal game, pulling away in the second half to secure a dominant 30-13 win over the Buccaneers.

It was only the second time Long County had defeated MCA since 2015, giving the entire community a massive reason to celebrate.

But behind the scenes, a critical administrative mistake was about to destroy the entire victory.

Long County school officials had to self-report a major rule violation to the Georgia High School Association (GHSA).

During the big game, the Blue Tide accidentally played a student who was technically ineligible because he had not been officially submitted for state clearance yet.

Because of this strict state rule, the GHSA has completely stripped Long County of the win, abruptly dropping the South Georgia squad’s official record to 0-1.
The only silver lining is that the player’s paperwork has since been cleared, meaning he will be fully eligible to hit the field moving forward.

While the scoreboard proved the Blue Tide can absolutely dominate this year, this paperwork penalty is a bitter pill to swallow for the hardworking players and coaching staff.

Do you think a team should lose their hard-earned victory over an administrative error, or are the state rules too strict?

Not to mention these kids were on the field until about 2 am !!
