Georgia’s suspension of state motor-fuel excise taxes will continue through Nov. 30, 2026, alongside an extended state of emergency, Gov. Brian Kemp announced Saturday. Kemp cited global market volatility and high fuel prices.

Kemp’s office said he made the decision on Oct. 24 after consulting Lt. Gov. Burt Jones and House Speaker Jon Burns.

The governor’s office lists Georgia’s excise tax at 33.3 cents per gallon for gasoline and 37.3 cents for diesel. AAA listed Georgia’s average prices at $3.67 per gallon for regular gasoline and $5.73 for diesel; the national average for regular gasoline was $4.30.

Kemp said the extension is intended to help Georgians facing high fuel prices. He also credited the state’s fiscal stewardship and support from General Assembly partners.
