Long County commissioners voted 5-0 on Sept. 24 to approve personnel amendments that include a donated-leave option for eligible full-time county employees who cannot work because of a serious illness or injury.
Under the policy, regular full-time employees may voluntarily donate accrued sick or vacation leave to another eligible regular full-time county employee.
The rules address eligibility, minimum leave balances and approval procedures, as well as coordination with FMLA and disability benefits.
They also allow retiring employees to donate accrued sick leave.
The board approved the amendments during a special called meeting.
Vice Chairman Blocker made the motion, and Commissioner Craft seconded it.
The amendments cover Section 3.08, “Donated Leave and Retirement Donation.” Their effective date was not stated.
