Long County earned a 4-3 walk-off win over Pickens in the opening round of the Class AAAA state softball tournament, reaching the winners’ bracket after a ninth-inning throwing error.
The decisive sequence unfolded in the bottom of the ninth. A Long County base hit put a runner on, and a passed ball advanced the runner to second. The Blue Tide then laid down a bunt, and Pickens’ throwing error completed the winning play.
The GHSA-used PSR system ranked Long County first in the bracket. The team’s next game was scheduled against North Hall at 2:45 p.m. on Field 5.
