Ports, agriculture and defense are the priorities Republican Jim Kingston says he would bring to Congress if elected to Georgia’s 1st Congressional District on Nov. 3. He pointed to their importance to communities across southeast Georgia.
Kingston cited Fort Stewart, Hunter Army Airfield and Kings Bay Naval Base, along with Georgia’s ports and agricultural interests. He said defense activity has economic value for smaller places, naming Camden County, Ludowici and Hinesville.
Tax policy is another focus. Speaking at a small-business roundtable in Savannah on Sept. 30, Kingston said he supports tax cuts and simplification, including a flat or fair tax. He described those changes as a way to give taxpayers relief amid inflation.
Asked about Iran, Kingston said he was glad Secretary of State Marco Rubio was handling international affairs. He added that he is not included in private briefings and said gas prices need to come down, while expressing confidence in the president’s handling of the issue.
Kingston is also pitching his private-sector background. He said his work as a business insurance broker showed him that many people distrust the federal government, and that he wants to bring what he called common sense to the process in Washington.
For voters considering Kingston and Democrat Amanda Hollowell, he said he would represent both voters and people who do not vote, and that he welcomes feedback from people with different political views.
Kingston said he feels good about his campaign but plans to keep working through the final stretch. His stops have included Savannah, St. Simons, Baxley, Jesup, Ludowici and Waycross.
