Solar-powered air-quality monitors have been installed in West Savannah, Ogeechee-Toombs and Old West Lantz, while installation is underway in Woodville, the city said.
The devices are intended to monitor pollution near industrial facilities, Mayor Van Johnson said. Savannah does not have jurisdiction over air pollution, but Johnson said the city hopes to share the data with state and federal agencies.
The monitors resulted from a four-year partnership among Georgia Tech, MIT and the Harambee House. Johnson said the city plans additional installations across Savannah.
