Three weeks into solo patrol on Savannah’s south side, Keziah Green has used academy training on calls that included one at 6:30 a.m. and situations involving tense negotiations.
Green, a patrol officer with the Savannah Police Department, was born and raised in the city. Before becoming an officer, she worked as a 911 dispatcher. She said the police academy gave her a foundation for the work.
Green hopes to continue building her skills, including through training with a hostage negotiation team, and to advance through the ranks. Reflecting on what she would tell her younger self, she said, “Do what scares you and you’ll get the best outcome,” describing a lesson from her time at the academy.
She views the work as more than a regular job, describing it as a larger mission she hopes to serve each day.
