Effingham County commissioners voted to hire Charles Abbott Associates to help oversee Project Camellia, the plan for OpenAI to build a 1,400-acre data center campus in the county.
County leaders said the firm will serve as a contact for site issues, including truck traffic and construction noise.
The company plans to assign 12 people to phase-one oversight, inspections and reviews.
Charles Abbott Associates says it works only with local governments and has 40 years of experience with large industrial projects.
Company representative Will Hart said it provides building inspection and plan-review services to more than 100 communities nationwide and has worked with roughly two dozen data centers, as well as large distribution centers.
The firm has also worked on the Hyundai site in Bryan County and a children’s hospital in Atlanta.
Its representatives answered questions from county leaders during this portion of the meeting; there was no public comment during that segment.
