The Effingham County Fair is underway in Springfield through Saturday, Oct. 24, after opening Oct. 15.
On Monday, Oct. 19, thousands gathered along Laurel Street downtown for the annual parade, where floats shared the route with marching bands, civic organizations, local businesses and community groups.
The parade followed this year’s fair theme, “Celebrating 250 Years of Freedom and Farming.”
The theme links the nation’s 250th anniversary in 2026 with Effingham County’s agricultural heritage.
The fair features livestock shows, agricultural exhibits, carnival rides, food and other family attractions.
Admission was free Monday, allowing people at the parade to continue to the fairgrounds afterward.
