Families can bring children of any age to the Statesboro Family YMCA’s free Trunk or Treat on Saturday, Oct. 24. The festival is scheduled for 4 to 6 p.m. at 409 Clairborne Avenue, where local organizations will distribute candy, prizes and other treats from decorated vehicles.
The YMCA describes the event as an alternative to door-to-door trick-or-treating, and costumes are encouraged. Executive Director Hannah Beggs said last year’s festival welcomed more than 1,200 participants.
Businesses, civic groups and community organizations can host a trunk at no cost. Vendors should bring their own candy or prizes and arrive for setup between 1:30 and 3 p.m. The organization with the best-decorated trunk will receive a one-month YMCA membership. To reserve a space, contact Beggs at (912) 225-1962 or [email protected].
The YMCA is accepting donations of individually wrapped or pre-packaged candy. Donations can be left at the Welcome Center, 409 Clairborne Ave., during regular hours: Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. or Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon.
