A McIntosh County jury found George “Big Head” Shawn Humphreys guilty on all five charges in the killing of Tony Ferguson, delivering a unanimous verdict in Darien at about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28. Jurors deliberated for roughly an hour.

The trial lasted three days and included testimony from multiple witnesses and evidence presented by the prosecution and defense. The case included malice murder, felony murder and multiple gun charges, but the available report did not identify all five counts individually. Humphreys, 34, is a convicted felon.

Sentencing was scheduled for 9 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 29, in McIntosh County Superior Court. The report announcing the verdict did not provide a sentence.

Prosecutors alleged Humphreys shot Ferguson at a party in December 2024 near Palmer Court and Georgia Highway 99. They also said Ferguson’s brother reached him as he was dying and asked who had shot him, and that Ferguson identified Humphreys.

During opening statements, both the prosecution and defense described Ferguson and Humphreys as friends before the shooting. About a month after Ferguson’s death, a fugitive task force from the United States Marshal Service arrested Humphreys in Jacksonville, Florida.

After Ferguson’s death, the sheriff’s office said, “This tragic loss of life should have been avoided,” and urged the public to come together to seek justice for his family. Ferguson’s family said he left five children and a granddaughter.
