Statesboro’s recommend Halloween trick-or-treating hours will run from 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31. Bulloch County Sheriff Noel Brown said the schedule was extended to accommodate the Georgia Southern-App State football game planned for Saturday evening.
Brown recommends families to start heading home around 8:30 p.m. He also recommends residents to switch off their lights by 9 p.m.
Brooklet has announced a shorter rather ridiculous window, from 5 to 7 p.m.
Safety reminders
The American Red Cross recommends face makeup instead of masks that can limit vision.
Flashlights, reflective strips on costumes or treat bags, and light-colored clothing can help children be more visible.
Costumes should resist flames and avoid fabric that drags on the ground.
Adults should know children’s plans and accompany young children door-to-door.
The Red Cross advises walking on sidewalks, crossing at corners after looking both ways, and staying out of alleys and yards.
Trick-or-treaters should visit homes with a porch light on, accept treats at the door and avoid going inside.
Drivers are urged to watch carefully for children, and families should be cautious around animals.
An adult should check treats before children eat them, removing loose candy, opened packages and choking hazards, as well as items with unfamiliar brand names.
Residents welcoming trick-or-treaters can light walkways and clear leaves and other obstacles from steps, porches and yards.
