The Savannah Police Department received two honors in the 2026 Georgia Governor’s Challenge Awards: second place for Overall Agency and a Category 7 special award for Bike & Pedestrian. The Georgia Governor’s Office of Highway Safety presents the awards.

SPD said the recognition reflects work that includes traffic-safety education, enforcement, public awareness and community-focused initiatives. The Bike & Pedestrian honor highlights the importance of protecting people who walk and bike, as well as others who use Savannah’s roads.

The department said the honors support Savannah Vision Zero, the citywide commitment to eliminate traffic fatalities and serious injuries while creating safer streets. SPD credited its Traffic Safety Unit, officers, traffic-safety partners and Savannah community members for their contributions.
