An 8-year-old girl is recovering after escaping a car that caught fire on Savannah’s Truman Parkway, while her mother says she hopes the child can return to her usual activities. The incident happened Sept. 19, according to her mother, Kristine Morris.
Morris said she and her daughter, Emilee, were leaving Chuck E. Cheese when they heard a noise and smoke began coming from the hood. As she tried to pull over, the brakes failed, she said. Morris believed she would have to crash the car to bring it to a stop.
Emilee got out of the vehicle. Morris said she briefly blacked out, then realized her daughter was no longer in the back seat. She remained trapped until a bystander helped her escape.
Morris spoke from her daughter’s hospital room and said Emilee had been in a coma but had come out of it. She hopes her daughter will be able to return to activities she enjoys, including dancing and making TikTok videos. Morris has started a GoFundMe to help the two after they leave the hospital.
