MIDWAY, Ga. — A woman escaped with only minor injuries after a deer crashed through her windshield and landed on top of her during a frightening midday collision Tuesday.

The crash happened at approximately 12:15 p.m. Aug. 25 as the woman traveled along South Coastal Highway near Liberty County EMS Station 2.

The woman suddenly struck something in the roadway.

Before she fully realized what had happened, a deer came crashing through the front windshield and landed on top of her inside the vehicle.

Calls began pouring into the Liberty County 911 Center as emergency personnel rushed to the scene expecting the worst.

Incredibly, the woman suffered only minor injuries despite the deer entering the passenger compartment. Her vehicle sustained extensive damage and was totaled.

The unusual collision happened in the middle of the day.

The Georgia Department of Natural Resources says deer are most active around dawn and dusk, but deer-related crashes can occur at any time. The agency also warns that deer are unpredictable and can suddenly bolt into a roadway.

If a collision cannot be avoided, the DNR advises motorists to slow down as much as possible and resist swerving, which could cause the driver to lose control, leave the roadway or collide with another vehicle.
