Savannah RISE’s second annual Eighth Grade Experience West gave more than 700 eighth-graders from six counties a chance to explore career options as they begin making decisions about high school pathways.

The event took place at Georgia Southern University’s Statesboro campus and drew students from North Bryan, Candler, Bulloch, Effingham, Evans and Screven.

Among the attendees were 120 students from Bryan County Middle School.

They had an opportunity to meet representatives from more than 30 industries and learn about career paths they may not have considered before.

Bryan County businesses represented at the showcase included C&H, Daniel Defense, Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America (HMGMA), Mobis, Burlington and Xcel.

Savannah RISE also has an East event scheduled for Nov. 18 at Georgia Southern University’s Armstrong Campus.

It is set to bring together students from Chatham, Liberty and Richmond Hill to explore careers.
