HINESVILLE, GA — A police officer who came under investigation after a disabled couple was left stranded at night has resigned from the Hinesville Police Department.
On August 20, 2026, the department confirmed to News Now Georgia that Todd Parmentier ended his employment with the City of Hinesville on August 5.
Parmentier had been under internal affairs investigation for reportedly impounding multiple vehicles after claiming the motorists did not have insurance.
In more than one of those incidents, the affected motorists proved they had valid insurance coverage.
Their vehicles were still towed and impounded.
One incident left a disabled couple stranded at night without their vehicle. The Hinesville Police Department later paid to have the couple’s vehicle released from the impound lot.
However, the disabled couple was not the only victim. Other motorists also reported having their vehicles impounded despite proving they had valid insurance coverage.
Parmentier’s resignation does not answer whether the internal affairs investigation was completed, what its findings were or whether the other affected motorists will be reimbursed for towing and storage expenses.
News Now Georgia has reached out to the Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council to determine whether Parmentier has applied to work for another law-enforcement agency. We are awaiting a response.
Resigning from the department does not erase the central issue: Why were multiple vehicles impounded when the motorists had valid insurance, and what is being done to prevent it from happening again?
