Triple-digit heat bears down on Liberty County

LIBERTY COUNTY, Ga. — If you thought it was already hot outside, Wednesday afternoon could get even worse.

Temperatures in Hinesville had already climbed to around 94 degrees by midday Wednesday, with the temperature forecast to reach around 101 degrees this afternoon.

The August heat will be accompanied by plenty of sunshine, although an afternoon thunderstorm is also possible. Even after sunset, temperatures are only expected to fall into the low 70s overnight.

And there may not be much relief Thursday.

Thursday’s forecast calls for another extremely hot day, with a high near 99 degrees and scattered thunderstorms possible across the area.

Anyone spending extended periods outdoors should take the heat seriously. Drink plenty of water, take frequent breaks from strenuous activity and never leave children or pets inside a parked vehicle — even for a short period of time.

For outdoor workers, athletes and anyone without reliable air conditioning, the prolonged afternoon heat can become dangerous quickly.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
