The Associated Press put Jim Kingston ahead by 2.855 percentage points in Georgia’s 1st Congressional District race as of midnight on Election Night, with an estimated 99% of votes counted. Democrat Amanda Hollowell said she plans to appeal.

The count was not complete, so it did not establish a final vote tally or confirmed winner. Hollowell’s team said it would provide an update Wednesday about the appeal; the report did not confirm that an appeal had been filed.

The 1st District spans Chatham and Charlton counties. Kingston’s father, Jack Kingston, represented the seat from 1993 until 2015.

During the campaign, Jim Kingston promoted tax cuts and support for military service members and their families, port workers and agriculture. Hollowell said she wants to advance access to higher education, election accessibility and affordability.
