Thursday’s sixth day of the SCAD Savannah Film Festival brought performers and filmmakers to Broughton Street and Trustees Theater in Savannah. SCAD students attended screenings and panel discussions, while honorees shared advice about working in entertainment.

John Leguizamo and Skyler Gisondo were among the established names at the event. The festival recognized Jalen Thomas Brooks for his role in Off Campus and Summer H. Howell for the title role in Mike Flanagan’s upcoming film Carrie. Tom Rhys Harries (Clayface), Anthony Ippolito (I Play Rocky), Adia and India Amarteifio were also among the honorees.

Brooks said that two years earlier he had been working at a pizza shop and thought about stopping acting; he is now on two shows. Describing the change, he said, “It’s jarring, but in the best way possible,” and added that “patience is key.”

Howell said she approached Carrie as a different take on the character and intentionally avoided earlier versions. Casting director John Papsidera, associated with The Odyssey, received the festival’s Outstanding Achievement in Casting Award. He urged aspiring actors to keep going, while Harries encouraged emerging filmmakers to make the most of their time and pursue their work with confidence.
