The Chatham County Police Department is now handling the case of David Pope, 45, after searches in Crisp County gave no indication he was there, the Crisp County Sheriff’s Office said.

The sheriff’s office initially reported Pope missing Monday, Oct. 19. Pope reportedly left his phone at his Savannah home. His vehicle was found around 6 p.m. that day near railroad tracks on Penia Road in Crisp County, according to the office.

Deputies searched throughout the week and assisted an outside agency Sunday following the discovery of an abandoned vehicle connected to Pope in Crisp County. The sheriff’s office said the searches gave no indication Pope was in the county.

Pope is 5 feet 8 inches tall and was last seen wearing black clothing and an older-style hat. Anyone who has seen him or knows his location is asked to contact local law enforcement or the Chatham County Police Department.
