Mitsubishi Power plans to spend $490 million expanding its Savannah Machinery Works near Pooler, a project expected to create 220 jobs in Chatham County. Gov. Brian Kemp said the investment would double the company’s existing footprint in Georgia.
The facility, at 1000 Pine Meadow Drive, will gain 450,000 square feet for manufacturing gas-turbine parts. Mitsubishi Power plans to hire workers for manufacturing, operations, heavy machinery and technician roles.
Savannah Economic Development Authority President and CEO Trip Tollison described the project as highly competitive and the largest investment to date on behalf of Mitsubishi Power Americas. He credited SEDA’s Director of Existing Industry Zachary Ott and project partners, including the Georgia Department of Economic Development.
Tollison said SEDA is looking ahead to a groundbreaking ceremony to begin construction. The announcement did not provide a date for the ceremony.
Mitsubishi Power is the power-solutions brand of Tokyo-based Mitsubishi Heavy Industries. Its generation offerings include gas, steam and aero-derivative turbines, along with related power systems and services.
