Curaçao has asked the Savannah Bananas to play a game there, and Mayor Van Johnson said Tuesday he would take the request to the team.

Johnson said Curaçao raised the idea as part of a friendship agreement. He did not announce that the team had accepted or that a game was scheduled.

Johnson also said he is asked about the Bananas while traveling internationally, including in Switzerland and Curaçao.

Discussing the team’s recognition abroad, he called them a “worldwide phenomenon.”
