RICHMOND HILL, Ga. — Two construction workers are confirmed dead following an early-morning crash Monday, September 14, on Interstate 95 involving an Amazon box truck and a construction vehicle.

Bryan County 911 began receiving multiple calls early this morning reporting the collision on I-95 in the Richmond Hill area.

Preliminary details suggest the Amazon box truck struck the construction truck as well as two construction workers. Both workers are confirmed deceased.

Both men worked for C.W. Matthews Contracting Co. They were later identified as James Ray Norris, 34, and Johnny Lee Ingram Jr., 35. Family funeral notices confirm their names and ages.

The crash also disrupted Monday morning travel through southern Bryan County. According to the Georgia Department of Transportation’s morning traffic information, all northbound lanes were blocked before Ocean Highway near mile marker 87, and northbound traffic was diverted at Exit 82.

The City of Richmond Hill’s morning update also reported a closure affecting the southbound left lane near the mile marker 86 turnaround. Drivers were urged to expect significant delays and use alternate routes.

Those closures were reported during the morning response. Motorists planning to travel through the area should check current traffic conditions before leaving, as lane restrictions and reopening estimates can change.

C.W. Matthews is a highway construction contractor based in Marietta. Founded in 1946, the company works throughout Georgia and the Southeast, with projects including roads, bridges and airport runways.

The account of how the collision happened remains preliminary. A cause and further details about the circumstances leading up to the crash have not been confirmed for this report.

Our sincere thoughts and prayers go out to their families and everyone involved.

This is a developing story. News Now Georgia will provide updates as additional information is confirmed.

Not the actual truck involved. Just represents the kind of truck involved.

UPDATE: The Georgia State Patrol now confirms their initial preliminary report that the Amazon box truck failed to maintain its Lane hitting the construction pickup truck, along with two workers who were picking up barrels.

The box truck pushed the Ford truck across three lanes into the grass median before flipping it over the guard rail where it came to rest next to the southbound lanes.

The two workers were brothers, according to their family funeral notices.

The Georgia State Patrol says the driver of the Amazon box truck was released from the scene, however it was emphasized that it was an ongoing investigation.
