Flags hanging above about five blocks of Broughton Street in downtown Savannah are veterans’ casket flags, donated by families for the city’s Veterans Day observance.

Volunteers installed the annual Flags on Broughton display Wednesday evening, Nov. 4. The Veterans Council of Chatham County organizes the project. Council chairman Harry Gardner said family members donated the flags after they had been placed on veterans’ caskets.

The flags represent veterans who served in World War I, World War II, Korea and more recent conflicts. The display will remain in place ahead of Savannah’s 80th annual Veterans Day Parade, scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 11, at 10 a.m. The parade will start at Abercorn and Gwinnett streets.
