Airbnb says hosts will no longer be allowed to require guests to wash dishes, strip beds or handle other specified checkout chores starting Nov. 20. Savannah host Chandra Peay said removing the tasks makes quick turnarounds between stays harder.
The rule covers washing and putting away dishes, stripping bedsheets, starting laundry and taking out the trash. Guests must still follow house rules.
Airbnb says it is responding to guest complaints about paying cleaning fees while also being asked to clean. Hosts can select from seven standard rules and add reasonable requests. The app will flag requests Airbnb deems unreasonable.
Peay has hosted in Savannah for five years and said the work supplements her job income. After guest feedback, she had already dropped requirements such as stripping beds and a pet fee to keep bookings coming.
