Long County property owners with qualifying standing timber losses may be eligible for temporary tax relief under Resolution 2026-07, adopted by the Board of Commissioners on Sept. 24.

The measure applies to eligible timber damaged within the federally declared disaster area associated with the 2024 disaster declaration.

Owners must provide certification from the Georgia Forestry Commission verifying eligible timber losses.

The relief covers qualifying standing-timber taxes imposed in the fourth quarter of 2024 and applicable quarters of 2025. It also includes refunds for eligible taxes already paid.

The board adopted the resolution in a 5-0 vote at a special-called meeting that began at 6 p.m. The motion adopted the TREES Act. No separate effective date or current legal effect was provided.
