SAVANNAH, Ga. — Drivers using the Talmadge Memorial Bridge should prepare for possible delays beginning Thursday, Sept. 10, as single-lane closures begin ahead of cable-replacement work.
According to the Georgia Department of Transportation, the closures will affect one direction at a time. At least one lane will remain open to traffic throughout the work.
GDOT said the bridge remains safe for travel and the planned closures are not related to an immediate safety concern.
The cable work is part of a larger project examining whether shorter cables could be used to raise the bridge’s clearance, potentially allowing larger cargo ships to reach the Port of Savannah.
Drivers should allow additional travel time and watch for workers, equipment and changing traffic patterns while crossing the bridge.
