An Effingham County jury convicted Jacob Edgar Knowlton of rape, aggravated sodomy and child molestation involving an 11-year-old girl, the district attorney’s office said. The offenses occurred between January and November 2023, according to the office.

The girl reported sexual abuse in November 2023. A subsequent investigation confirmed Knowlton forced her to engage in sexual acts on multiple occasions, the district attorney’s office said.

Knowlton is scheduled to be sentenced Nov. 5 before Chief Superior Court Judge Michael T. Muldrew.

Rape and aggravated sodomy each carry a maximum sentence of life in prison and a mandatory minimum of 25 years without parole, according to the district attorney’s office. Child molestation carries a maximum sentence of 20 years. The office said Knowlton will also be required to register as a sex offender for life.
