POOLER, Ga. — The National Museum of the Mighty Eighth Air Force will host a free Mighty Talks program on Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2026, from 11 a.m. to noon, with Kaitlin Sanders, co-author of Ortiz’s War, a book about World War II Marine Peter J. Ortiz.
The program will take place at the museum, 175 Bourne Ave. in Pooler. Admission to the talk is free and open to the public; advance registration is requested.
The story of Peter Ortiz
Ortiz served with the French Foreign Legion, the U.S. Marine Corps and the Office of Strategic Services. In occupied France, he parachuted behind enemy lines, worked with the French Resistance, gathered intelligence and helped downed Allied airmen.
The book also recounts his missions against German forces and his decision to surrender rather than risk the destruction of a French village.
Sanders’ presentation is part of the museum’s monthly Mighty Talks series, which focuses on military history and the people connected to it.
