Chatham County police arrested 25-year-old Tiffany Jones on Oct. 14 and charged her with felony theft by taking after investigating unpaid diesel fuel at a Circle K on Highway 21.

Police allege Jones let customers pump diesel without paying at the pump if they gave her a smaller amount of cash directly. Investigators identified 18 alleged transactions in which an employee received and kept payments ranging from $100 to $500, according to the Chatham County Police Department.

The alleged transactions took place between August and October at the Circle K in the 5500 block of Highway 21. Police estimate that more than 3,000 gallons of diesel went unpaid, costing the business more than $20,000.

Jones was booked into the Chatham County Detention Center after her arrest, authorities said. The charge is an allegation and does not establish guilt.
